In August, Troy W. Smith earned a PhD in Scandinavian Languages and Literatures from the University of California, Berkeley, with a dissertation entitled "Kierkegaard and the Aesthetics of the Book." He also has an M.L.S. from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. in English literature from the University of Mississippi. As Nordic Area Reference Librarian at the Library of Congress, he is responsible for the Danish, Faroese, Finnish, Greenlandic, Icelandic, Norwegian, Old Norse, Saami, and Swedish collections.
