Montgomery County Public Libraries
Amy Alapati is currently the Head of Children's Services at the Damascus branch of Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL), in Maryland. Amy has over 38 years of frontline and design experience with Summer Reading programs in three different library systems. Amy's primary focus with any Summer Reading program is to build in goals that will be exciting and accessible for all children and teens. Prior to her 35 years with MCPL, Amy was head of children's services at the Beechview Branch of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, PA, and served as the head children's librarian at Fairfax County Public Library's Sherwood Regional Library in Alexandria, VA. Amy grew up in Philadelphia, achieved her BA at Fordham University's Rose Hill campus, and has an MLS from University of Pittsburgh. As a pioneer of innovative library programming throughout her career, she was the first to bring baby storytimes to MCPL, and created the Damascus Library SleepOver, now at 25 years and counting! She loves a looming deadline, her Shetland Sheepdog Tuppence, and a good British mystery.
