Libraries for Digital Equity
Liz Gabbitas is a librarian with an interest in the future of library service and the profession. Her focus is on shifting perspectives and centering the work libraries already do as they envision the future. She loves seeing her library colleagues develop the confidence to stand up and say “Yes, I’m an expert!” Liz's work has proven that when built on a foundation of library values, it's possible to uncover sustainable ideas and build future-focused solutions.
When the pandemic hit in 2020, Liz became the leader on digital equity for the state of Utah in libraries and beyond. Working with the state broadband office, she wrote Utah's State Digital Equity Plan, the third in the nation to be released. She also managed digital inclusion grants, headed an ECF consortium, and gave countless trainings on tech and digital equity for library staff and other stakeholders. She spent the past four years at the State Library of Utah; prior to that she worked for the University of Utah Marriott Library and the Summit County Public Library and earned an MLIS at the University of North Texas. After a decade in libraries, she is passionate about the potential libraries and other public services have to grow and evolve. Liz is currently a library trainer and consultant in the DC area focused on building library leaders for digital equity.
