Instructional Services Librarian Texas A & M University - Corpus Christi
The opportunity to re-imagine the format of an annual professional development instruction retreat which was previously held in-person before the pandemic, and then synchronous online workshops during the pandemic led to a hybrid, flipped format to suit post-pandemic staff preferences. This new iteration consisted of five self-directed micro-courses combining group activities, asynchronous discussions on Teams channels, an in-person orientation and launch social, and scheduled Zoom discussion meetings. The change in format precedes a shift to an anticipated active learning primary teaching classroom and is meant to prepare library instruction faculty to rely less on passive lecturing and more towards incorporating participatory active learning teaching techniques.
Learning Objectives:
Define microlearning and understand its benefits.
Identify ideal topics for professional micro-courses and colleagues' funds of knowledge
Identify possible formats and tools to create areas for interaction and continuing conversation outside of online synchronous meetings.
