Improving Accessibility of Instructional Materials, One Slideshow at a Time

Are you overwhelmed by the thought of trying to make all of your instructional materials fully accessible? Take the first step by starting with one slide deck! This program will describe how a small team of research and education librarians developed a brief training session for their peers about how to make slides more accessible. Our training focused on the particular software that our department uses, but the principles we taught would apply to any slideshow platform. The best practices we will share in this program include elements such as font, hyperlinks, bullet points, alt text, use of color, and contrast.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe common accessibility challenges related to visual instructional materials, especially slides.
  • Identify solutions to address common accessibility challenges related to visual instructional materials, especially slides.
  • Develop a plan for training library colleagues on slide deck accessibility strategies.
