This presentation will offer school librarians a toolkit to craft inclusive spaces and better serve their communities. Attendees will walk away with a sense of community and new tools to begin or continue working toward inclusive school libraries, including an understanding of culturally responsive pedagogy, a framework aligning culturally responsive practices with the AASL Standards, reflective exercises, authentic strategies and activities, and resources for deeper exploration. Better understanding their cultural selves, their place in society, and how that relates to their profession and those they serve, will spark a movement within themselves and their spaces. Movements do not happen overnight, nor do they happen in a vacuum. Based on the book Embracing Culturally Responsive Practice in School Libraries, this presentation will offer school librarians a toolkit to craft inclusive spaces and better serve their communities.
