Empowering Future Scholars Through High School Information Literacy Workshops in Academic Libraries

Ever thought you'd hear high school students describe a half-day, university library research workshop as "inspiring, exciting, wonderful, and amazing?" Neither did we, but that's precisely what happened during our collaboration with a local high school English teacher. At a time when calls to remove books from school libraries abound, academic libraries can serve as vital sanctuaries for students to explore diverse materials and viewpoints, all while having a blast. Additionally, by familiarizing themselves with college-level research tools early on, students can ensure a smooth transition to college and a successful first year. Attendees will learn how to create a student-centered experience that not only imparts essential information literacy skills but also leaves students feeling like they've had the full college experience in just half a day.
