Discover how outdoor lockers pack a punch in favor of strategic plans and key initiatives by providing 24-hour access to library materials and information. Staff-friendly and patron-friendly, modern lockers correlate to dramatically increased holds pickups and unique opportunities for browsing and borrowing. Satisfying libraries’ missions to provide unfettered access and robust service to all, lockers meet patrons where they are, on patrons’ schedules. Lockers are especially equitable and useful to patrons who are shift workers or who otherwise keep nontraditional schedules. Attendees will learn key points for optimal installation of lockers; ideas for locker locations throughout communities; ways to use lockers to increase circulation of “library of things” and other materials; and how to maximize lockers as a 24-hour resource for advertising library programs and other information and initiatives to the public.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will learn key points for optimal installation of outdoor lockers.
  • Attendees will learn ideas for locker locations throughout communities.
  • Attendees will learn ways to use lockers to increase circulation of “library of things” and other materials.
  • Attendees will learn how to maximize lockers as a 24-hour resource for advertising library programs and other information and initiatives to the public.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to greatly expand access to library materials in the community at physical locations convenient to patrons.
